A little while ago I finished around 50% of my ongoing longfic Lifeless Stars. For me, this is quite important, as it has been a little while since the last time I've written something than three chapters that hasn't been scrapped, abandoned or orphaned. It has taken almost 2 years to get to that point, but I don't mind it, as taking my time with it is the main reason I haven't abandoned the fic, outside of me still being in the fandom and engaging with it (cause if I wasn't, the fic's future would've been grim).
It has been under a week since those chapters that mark the halfway of the story have been posted, and I have been thinking a lot about all the things I wanted to put in there but didn't for variety of reasons. I thought it would be fun to mentioned them somewhere, at least so that if anyone is every interested, they can come here and see what things were originally planned but were scrapped or replaced with something else. Some of these things might still appear, but in a different way or as a separate fic, but those are still not 100% set on happening. Now, let's see all the things.
1 - The way Alva and Luca were supposed to get together was different and would've happened earlier in the story. If I were following the initial idea, chapter 14 would've been the moment they'd get together. Alva would've been helping Luca over his experiment and at some point, they'd kiss and continue of from there. The main reason this was scrapped was due to other story changes, like inclusion of Luca joining Eye of Darkness, something that wasn't planned originally. At the time I also wasn't sure how the story would go, it was mostly an idea I wanted to get to at some point, but as time went on, I realized it wasn't a good one and just went with what now happened in chapter 19.
2 - Tracy and Luca weren't supposed to have a fight. Even when the Eye of Darkness plot line was thought of a bit later, I didn't plan on them having a fight and Tracy not wanting to talk to him at all. Tracy was meant to have doubts and not be very enthusiastic on anything Luca would do regarding the cult, but she wasn't going to ignore him completely. The change happened spontaneously, and I'm glad I made it as it kept things more interesting and will have a nice conclusion when I finally get to it in the story.
3 - Luca staying in Alva's home was meant to happen earlier and was meant to last one day. Since the Eye of Darkness plotline came later, this was just changed to fit the new elements that previously weren't there. Luca was supposed to be there for one day, at the time where he and Alva weren't as close and on friendly terms and was meant to showcase Luca having nightmares and his problems with past self-harm. The latter is still meant to be included later in the story, so that one was just moved, but the original idea was redone to fit the changes. This was meant to be a moment where Alva finds out that Herman was shitty to Luca (in the current story this is showcased in the chapter 11 in a different way) and to slowly shift how he viewed him. I still like the original idea but with other story chances, it just wouldn't work.
4 - Joseph, Luca and Aesop threesome. Yea, this was a thing for a moment. It was mostly a 3 second thought I had, but in theory it could've worked if I tried to make it. This idea is not entirely scrapped, as I do think it could be an interesting 'what if' one shot fic that derives from the main timeline and at some point, I might write it.
5 - A long fic for each of the mentioned ships that appear in the story one way or another. Okay, not for all of them. Luchino/Norton have a one shot in the planning, and at some point, I was thinking of making one shot for Annie and Melly as they are a couple in this (mentioned only). This has been scrapped for most of the ship mentioned, as I don't think I'd have the time or will to write for most of them. The only ones that do have a chance of having this are Ann/Galatea (as the idea has been in the works for a while and would be a 3 or 4 chapter fic) and Joscarl. Antodrew have a slight chance of having this, as the story for the previous couple happens at the same time, so it could be an interesting way of telling two stories that have similar scenes (I've tired this before with a different fandom but didn't go too far as I'm not interested in it anymore). Still, the initial idea for this had 4-5 longfics in mind, so going from that to 2 or maybe 3 is a lot. Yes, this isn't exactly a part of the main story, but it was an idea I had at the start of it, so it counts as early story ideas.
6 - An interlude chapter from a POV of different characters. This was mostly just moved, as I thought having it in between chapters 18 and 19 (which was the original idea) might break the flow of the fic. There are around 3 chapters like these that I'd like to write, and most are doable, even with one being moved like this. The plot of it might change slightly, but overall it would still give the same effect that I wanted it to give originally (which is other people's perception of Alva and Luca's relationship or foreshadowing a future plot point)
These are all the thoughts I had on this first part of the fic. I might make more once the whole fic is finished, if anything major changes. I'm very happy with how the fic is going and I can't wait to finally get to the end of it so that everyone can see the whole story and how it ends.
